Polyvoring My Closet: Holiday Party 2012

Hey Guys, I know its been awhile since I posted on here but it seems like just when you think you have time to do the things you want life gets in the way. Despite life's interruptions I did make time to sew and I still have things I need to post. Today was my company's annual holiday party and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to wear a skirt I made a few weeks ago. It was inpsired by this Polyvore set I put together.

Holiday Party 2012

The pattern I used was B5249 which I used to make this skirt here. I totally loved the cut of the original skirt and knew that when I made it again I would make it more fitted.

For this skirt I used black stretch cotton sateen for themain part and black and white geometric cotton for the pocket insets.

I took my time making this skirt and everything came together so seamlessly. I'm so proud of how neat my stitches are.   What I'm most proud of is my invisble zipper insertion. As you can see I don't have that unattractive pulling away from the body that sometimes happen at the top of the zipper, well it seems to alway happen to me.  I think I finally have a TNT pattern because I will definitely be making more of these.

What I loved most about this skirt is that despite wearing it all day IT DID NOT GROW.

Because I wanted to show off the waist detailing, instead of wearing a fitted cardigan like I originally planned I decided to go with a fitted merino wool turtleneck sweater. A pair of black tights, suede shooties, and a red wool pea coat completed my holiday ensemble. I received so many compliments  from my coworker which made me feel such a sense of pride knowing that I made this skirt.

Turtleneck: Express, Skirt: B5249, Coat: JCP for JC Penney, Shoes: Arizona for JC Penney

Starting Friday I'll have NINE glorious days off and I already have my list to- do's compiled and on that list is lots and lots of crafting. I may also take some time out to show off two finished pieces just waiting to be worn.

Until Later, Happy Sewing !

  1. I have really enjoyed scrolling through your finished sewing projects. I love that pencil skirt...the black one with the plaid inserts.
