Polyvore-ing My Closet: Red Pencil Means Good

Hey everyone!

I've been ridiculously addicted to Polyvore for the last couple of weeks now, creating my own virtual outfits by choosing pieces similar stuff I already own and thinking about how I can bring them to reality. It's like playing with the paper dolls I use to create when I was a kid without all the drawing, coloring, cutting out, and occasional wardrobe malfunction. lol As I was going through my closet I came across a taupe collarless suede jacket that I bought years ago and never got a chance to wear. I knew before the weather really got too cold I wanted to wear this jacket at least once I just had to figure out what I was going to wear with it. As I played around with ideas on Polyvore I remembered that I also have a pair of knee high boots in that color family that I felt would compliment the jacket and threw that in there, too. Automatically I knew that a red pencil skirt would set this look off right.

Red Pencil Means Good

The thing is I didn't own a red pencil skirt. Well I had to fix that, so off to my pattern/fabric stash I went. (isn't it cool when you know how to sew). To make this skirt I used Butterick 5249 and some leftover red stretch cotton from my stash. This skirt was actually suppose to be a muslin, but I was so happy with the fit I decided it would be a wearable muslin. I love the fact that the skirt is just two pieces, a back and a front, but that the the front and back is three panels which I feel give the skirt a more figure flattering fit. I also love the semi high waist. If I had to make one change I would have made the skirt a little more fitted. I think I'll do that with the next one since I plan on making many more of these. I don't think you can have too many pencil skirts. They're a must have staple in any woman's closet and a great wadrobe builder. I'm already picturing pencil skirt number 2. All fabric from my stash, though. I really have bring that pile down.

Here it is with the jacket.

Jacket: JonesWear for JC Penney (very old), Turtleneck: Express (very old), Skirt: Butterick 5249, Boots: Bandolino (very old)

Until Later, Happy Sewing!
